I have to admit I have been totally touched by Beyonce's new song Best Thing I never had. I am sure if you are over the age of 21. You have probably been heart broken by now. The funny thing about heartache is that you never forget it. The pain grows weaker but sometimes can still be re experienced. The pain has no timeline for when it should or should not leave, or when it will return.
Often I find that even if the relationship was horrible we find ourselves wanting to go back to a love once known, because it is comfortable and familiar. We remember all of the good things and want that love so bad. Maybe you were cheated on, played, abused ...whatever it was. I am sure this song can touch you.
The reason I love this song so much is the satisfaction and contentment B displays throughout the song. It is so playful and she seems happy with her new life even if in the past there was pain. It is interesting that she is able to acknowledge this pain, but yet it is not distressing for her. It is almost liberating to know that she was so foolish to love that person who slighted her. I guess in a way it provides hope that maybe liberation is there for us all eventually. If we keep our heads up and live right.

So true. I can still feel hurt thinking about a relationship that ended years ago. When it was good it was good and when it was bad it was bad. Those emotions are still there. Great song too :) I hadn't heard it before.
ReplyDeleteI've begun to realize that often when we look back at the bad relationships that caused us heartache, we see that it never should have been a relationship at all. Unfortunately we can't always help who we fall for. I've always thought Beyonce was such a strong woman, and even though I don't really listen to hip hop or pop or really anything that doesn't have a Christian theme to it, I do occasionally like listening to a little bit of everything else so that I can keep up with the world around me. I used to love Beyonce and what she stood for and I hope everything works out for the best for her.

I have been going through the past relationships in my mind lately and contemplating them and was even planning on writing about them today or tomorrow. Anyway, I'm in a wonderful relationship of 6 years but the other guys still wander through my mind occasionally. The pain and love with always be there with all of them, but I don't let it get me down. Great post. Found you through 20sb. :)
